Fractal Geometry

Deriving its name from the root meaning “to break,” a fractal is an object which often exists in a broken dimension.  A fractal can be broken into many pieces with every piece being an exact copy of the original.  It does this by duplicating simple properties infinitely, and infinity leads to weird and wonderful places.

By repeated applications of a small set of rules, fractals grow to infinite complexity and take on seemingly organic forms.  In fact, fractals often make excellent models for natural structures and processes, and are intrinsically linked to chaos theory.
